The creative choices possible with food label packaging designs means presenting a lot of ideas to my clients. These two projects show the extremes.
The sauce labels were created in a couple of hours to enable a client to present ideas for a meeting.
The chocolate boxes show the final designs that went into production following the intricate design process.
These food label packaging design ideas for a range of sauces, were created for BD Foods. I am often asked to mock up ideas for food and product packaging. My client wanted to present a range of ideas for a meeting, so given only a few hours these are the designs I created. Most of them use my own images, making it possible to produce a collection without having to search picture agencies.
My client at HRH Chocolates contacted me to take photographs of his delicious chocolate truffles. We decided to shoot the chocolates on a gloss, black, glass background, notoriously difficult to use as it reflects everything and any spec of dust is clearly visible. Three chocolates were painstakingly photographed in a group with a macro lens set to a shallow depth of field, making the sharpest focus on the cut surface of the truffles.
Once the best shot was chosen the four were carefully retouched to make the food as luxuriously perfect as possible. The two sugar-coated chocolates rest on tiny crystals of fine sugar. The other two have their reflections on spotless black. Click on any of the thumbnails to see the enlarged images.
The design of the packaging uses a simple printed gloss band that wraps around coloured, matt boxes.
