Boston’s Night Skyline from the Skywalk Observatory in the Prudential Building

These night time shots of Boston were taken from the Skywalk Observatory on the top floor of the Prudential Building.

Normally views from skyscrapers are looking down, but at the Prudential you are on a level with the next skyscraper – the John Hancock Tower. This stunning effect made us feel part of the landscape rather than simply looking down on it.

At night windows reflect everything inside. For each of the photographs I had to hand-hold the camera, whilst using black fabric around it to obliterate the reflections. A tripod and blackout curtain would have been better, but they weren’t allowed of course. Using the tripod would also meant I could take time-lapse photographs which would show car lights as streaks.

We enjoyed the visit so much we went back the next day to see the view in daylight.
