Standen House Interiors Photography
Standen House is a unique Arts & Crafts style home built between 1891 and 1894, designed by architect Phillip Webb, along with his friend and business colleague William Morris.
Bequeathed to the National Trust
Webb’s demanding clients were James Beale a prosperous London solicitor, and his wife Margaret. Generations later in 1972 the house was bequeathed to the National Trust.
Furnishings Still Look Fresh
Today the stunningly sumptuous William Morris wallpapers, furnishings, tiles and fabrics look as fresh as they would have done over 120 years ago. Most of the wallpapers and fabrics are still available from Sanderson, even if only printed digitally. Ironically this would have appalled William Morris who famously believed in using traditional methods and craftsmen.
